Dentistry:

Treatments, Trends and Cosmetic Dentistry

While traditional dentistry focuses on oral preventing, diagnosing and treating dental problems and oral disease, cosmetic dentistry focuses on improving the appearance of a person’s teeth and smile.

Cosmetic Dentistry Trends

Advancements in natural-looking, tooth-colored dental materials make today’s cosmetic dental treatments more durable than in past years. Additionally, dentists are now using more conservative techniques to preserve as much of the tooth structure as possible, depending upon the specific situation.

Cosmetic Dentistry Treatments

Cosmetic dentistry treatments in current use include:

  • Inlays/Onlays– used for decayed tooth structures (aka, ‘fillings’)
  • Composite Bonding: used for chipped, broken, discolored or decayed teeth.  The appearance may be corrected using a composite material applied into the cavity or surface of the tooth, invisibly blending in with surrounding tooth structure.
  • In-office Teeth Whitening: to treat teeth stained from food, coffee, tea, juices, red wine, smoking or poor oral hygiene. Besides the obvious immediate whitening effect, bleaching teeth can enhance the appearance of your smile and make you look much younger.
  • Dental Veneers:  used to correct damaged tooth structure or severe tooth discoloration and may also correct gaps in your teeth. Composite or porcelain veneers are bonded to the surface of a tooth.
  • Dental Implants: a permanent prosthetic fixture to compensate surgically implanted into bone structure to address tooth loss.
  • Smile Makeover: involves a comprehensive assessment of your teeth and gums in order to improve its overall esthetic appearance. Typically, one or more cosmetic dentistry procedures may be required to achieve the desired result.
  • Full mouth reconstruction: used to address functional problems with your bite, muscles, teeth or bone structure. If required, the materials available today make it possible for our dentists to provide you with the most natural, durable and clinically sound treatments to achieve full mouth reconstruction.
